Clandestinos is a 2007 film from Spain about a young man coming out of jail, and the search for his lover and later involvement in ETA. Xabi was abandoned as a child and his feral life led to a many spells in reform schools. After being released this time, he meets Inaki, an older man who is involved in ETA terrorism and who becomes a true friend, teacher and lover to the youth. Unfortunately, Xabi is sent to a high security correctional facility after throwing a gasoline bottle at a policeman during a robbery, injuring him severely. Xabi, along with a young Mexican and a Moroccan named Driss, both of whom are to be deported, manage to escape and get to Madrid. They are the "clandestinos" of the title. Xabi looks for Inaki as he wants to join ETA, but cannot find him.

She and her friend, Victor Moritz (John Boles), go to Dr. Waldman (Edward Van Sloan), his old medical professor, and ask Dr. Waldman's help in reclaiming the young scientist from his absorbing experiments. Elizabeth, intent on rescuing Frankenstein, arrives just as the eager young medico is making his final tests. They all watch Frankenstein and the hunchback as they raise the dead creature on an operating table, high into the room, toward an opening at the top of the laboratory. Then a terrific crash of thunder—the crackling of Frankenstein's electric machines—and the hand of Frankenstein's monster begins to move.

The 1820s. A sailing ship captained by Robert Walton is iced in in the Arctic. Suddenly the crew see two men pursuing each other across the ice on dog sleds. One of the men collapses and is brought aboard the ship. This proves to be Viktor Frankenstein who proceeds to tell Captain Walton his incredible story. From a young age, Viktor was obsessed with life and death. As a young man he went to Ingolstadt to study where his tutor Professor Waldman encouraged him to think beyond convention. And so Viktor stole dead bodies from graves and pieced them together. He then harnessed lightning from a storm to bring his creation to life. But upon seeing what he had created, Viktor was horrified. The creature ran away but was shunned by everybody it came across because of its hideous appearance. Hiding in the woods, it learned to speak and read from spying in on a family in a cottage. It then returned to Geneva to find its creator. But in its attempts to do so it accidentally killed Frankenstein’s younger brother William and then left evidence that had the maid hung for the murder. Frankenstein confronted his creation who promised to stop its reign of terror if he created a mate for it. But after starting, Frankenstein found that he could not go through with doing so again and burned his notes. The creature promised to take revenge on Frankenstein on his wedding night.

55 Days at Peking is a dramatization of the Boxer Rebellion which took place in 1900 China. Fed up by foreign encroachment, the Dowager Empress Tzu-Hsi uses the Boxer secret societies to attack the foreigners within China, culminating in the siege of the foreign legations' compounds in Peking (now Beijing). The film concentrates on the defense of the legations from the point of view of the foreign powers, and the title refers to the length of the defense by the colonial powers of the legations district of Peking.

In four decades Zagreb Film produced 600 animated films that won more than 400 international awards. The studio quickly became world renowned for a unique animation style that became known as "the Zagreb school."
One of the studio's pioneering distinction was its filmmakers' propensity toward writing, designing, and directing their own films. The result was the creation of bold cartoons unified in design, tone, and message. Within the five volume series can be found the best work from this legendary animation studio.
Volume 1: The Classic Collection
Beginning with Ersatz, the first film from outside the United States to win an Academy Award for best animated film, these seven cartoons are representative of the most unique offerings from the legendary Zagreb Film studio.
Ersatz (Surogat) (9:20): This Oscar-winner by Dusan Vukotic tells the story of a tourist on a beach who inflates an entire village. A passionate love develops, provoking jealousy, vengeance, and finally tragedy. In the end, a small nail reminds everyone of the artificiality of the world that has been created.
Diary (Dnevnik) (8:09): Memories of both the wonder and alienation of life reverberates in this animated diary by Nedeljko Dragic, one of Zagreb Film's most acclaimed artists.
Mask of the Red Death (Maska Crvene Smrti) (9:18): Based on the Edgar Allan Poe story. A plague devastates the world, but inside the castle Count Prospero and his decadent court continue their orgies. The plague then takes a mysterious form to do its evil work.
Butterflies (Leptiri) (9:13): In this typically wild ride by Kresimir Zimonic a lonesome girl at the seashore unexpectedly learns something about herself.
Last Waltz in the Old Mill (Posljednji Valcer U Starom Mlinu) (6:12): A relatively new (1995) film, it was written by Oscar-winner Dusan Vukotic. In live action, an old man feeds a flower mill. Two seeds are then transformed into animated lovers who dance their last waltz.
Fisheye (Riblje Oko) (8:45): Josko Marusic represents the new breed of animators in Zagreb today, with ties to the old school. In this metaphor of how the normal order of things sometimes goes awry, one night the fish take over.
Mass in A Minor (Misa U A-Molu) (3:41): This 1996 film by Goce Vaskov uses music and imagery to portray the extraordinary beauty of the forces of nature. It also launched the Zagreb school into the world of computer animation.

Beyond all the metaphors, all the symbolism, and all the awards, the animation from Zagreb Film will make you laugh. These are among the funniest.
The Tower of Babel (Lalilonska Kula) (4:25): A man's life flashes before him as he falls from a tower. Directed by Rastko Ciric.
Exciting Love Story (Uzbudljiva Ljubavna Prica) (5:37): Directed by one of the great masters of the Zagreb School, Borivoj Dovnikovic, or Bordo. This is his classic cartoon of a man in search of his sweetheart, Gloria.
The Devil's Work (Davolja Posla) (9:05): This was the debut film of Zlatko Grgic, a Zagreb legend, in 1965 at the age of 20. It demonstrates his comedic talents at their best, as a well-meaning fellow learns to appreciate the benefits of "devilish" behavior.
Of Holes and Corks (O Rupama I Cepovima) (8:50): Ante Zaninovic's story of a man's persistent battle with the forces of nature.
Learning to Walk (Skola Hodanja) (8:06): Borivoj (Bordo) Dovnikovic's story about a man whose four countrymen each try to teach him their own style of walking. But he already knows how to walk.
Home is the Best (Kod Kuce Je Najbolje) (8:05): Josko Marusic's comical muse about a cat who takes over a man's household.
Largo (4:04): Being stranded on a desert island is anything but tedious for this strange shipwrecked soul.

Fifteen stories of irony, double cross, and mystery. Some are hilarious, some poignant, all memorable.
Big Time (Veliki Provod) (6:18): A piggy-bank runs away from a boy who was just about to smash it. The pursuit of the pig by a gallery of oddball characters makes this a Zagreb Film favorite.
Curiosity (Znatizelja) (7:50): Director Borivoj (Bordo) Dovnikovic was known for combining humor with an acute understanding of human psychology. This is a film about human curiosity - an affliction for which no cure has ever been found.
Musical Pig (Muzikalno Prase) (8:54): Zlatko Grgic's comical story of an operatic pig who finally finds a friend, but at a price.
Okay! (:57): This boisterously entertaining cartoon from Zlatko Pavlinic demonstrates that in the war between the sexes, nothing is as it first appears.
Elegy (Elegija) (3:40): A prisoner stares sadly into a courtyard from behind the bars of his cell's small window. As the year go by, the growth a single red flower gives him hope. Directed by Nedeljko Dragic.
The Fifth One (Peti) (2:34): Pavao Stalter's humorous look at human stubbornness. A harmonious quartet confronts an indestructible pest - the trumpet player.
The Wall (Zid) (3:22): A wall blocks the path of two people. One man submits, while the other refuses to admit defeat. Finally the second man smashes a hole in the wall with his head, paying for the victory with his life. Now the other person's path is open “ at least until the next wall. Directed by Ante Zaninovic.
Prayer (Molitva) (:54): Good luck, bad luck - they both come quickly in this brief gem by Radivoje Gvozdanovi.
Paranoia (Paranoja) (3:51): Running to hide from his pursuers, our hero is hunted through the dark streets of the city. He locks himself in his apartment, but the pursuers are there as well.
The Ceremony (Ceremonija) (3:14): Another classic by Bordo Dovnikovic. Six people are grouped and regrouped in front of a wall as if for a photograph. But all is not as it seems.
The Fly (Muha) (7:54): A Kafka-like tale about a man and a fly butting heads, but ending up as equals. Directed by the successful team of Aleksandar Marks and Vladimir Jutrisa.

Way to Your Neighbor (Put Susjedu) (1:23): Typical of a Nedeljko Dragic film, the punch line is set up perfectly as a man dresses for just another day at the office.
Satiemania (13:39): Based on the music of Eric Satie, this internationally acclaimed film portrays the jungle of the big city -- the supermarket, brothels and bars, and the ripple of water in simultaneous harmony and conflict - all moving to the satirical, mocking, but always lyrical music of Eric Satie.
Album (10:16): In this very personal film by Kresimir Zimonic, a young girl's childhood memories come to life as she thumbs through her family photograph album.
Plop (5:59): Directed by Zlatko Pavlinic, one of Zagreb's zaniest animators. A man picks up a girl in a bar and expects her to do his housework. He is in for a big surprise.

Zagreb Film produced dozens of films particularly for children, including the internationally distributed Professor Balthazar and Little Flying Bears series. These eleven cartoons include many of the studio's most acclaimed individual shorts for children.
Cow on the Moon (Krava na Mjesecu) (10:06): One of the best-loved films from Zagreb founder and Oscar-winner Dusan Vukotic. A young girl tricks a boy into thinking that the rocket ship she has built has taken him to the moon.
Strange Bird (Cudna Ptica) (6:31): Bordo Dovnikovic's simple story of a bird who will do anything to hatch and nurture her own chick.
Octave of Fear (Oktava Straha) (4:55): Leo Fabiani's priceless muse about everyone having someone to fear.
Little and Big (Mali I Veliki) (7:28): Another gem by Zlatko Grgic. It's his unique take on the classic cartoon "chase."
Anna Goes to Buy Some Bread (Kako Je Ana Kupila Kruh) (6:23): Aleksandar Marks and Vladimire Jutrisa are best known for such bizarre films as Nightmare and The Fly. But they also collaborated on children's films, and this is one of their best. In it, Anna takes a ride on her umbrella on her way to buy a loaf of bread.
Well Done Job (Dobro Obavljen Posao) (5:37): A mouse comes to visit and decides to stay, much to the dismay of the household's cat.
Krek (9:17): For children of all ages, this is Bordo Dovnikovic's satire about the military. A soldier, hounded by his superior, has the last laugh by taking a stroll around the world.
MaxiCat in Ball of Yarn (:52), MaxiCat in Door (1:00) and MaxiCat in Fishing (:38): Three more MaxiCat episodes that will put a smile on the faces of children everywhere.

William Kentridge, born in Johannesburg in 1955, is one of South Africa's most world renowned artists and animators. His father, Sydney Kentridge, was one of the defence team for Nelson Mandela at the notorious Rivonia Trial which resulted in Mandela’s 25 year imprisonment. As a result he grew up very aware of South African politics. After completing a degree in Politics and African Studies, he studied Fine Art and then Mime and Theatre at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Between 1975 and 1991, he was acting and directing in Johannesburg's Junction Avenue Theatre Company. In the 1980s, he worked on television films and series as art director.
In 1989, Kentridge created his first animated work, Johannesburg, 2nd Greatest City After Paris, in the series Drawings for Projection. He first used here his charcoal animation technique that would become a feature of his work. What interests Kentridge is time; its passing, the traces it leaves, the memory that events, beings and objects leave when we close our eyes on our past. In order to do this, Kentridge gradually refined a personal and unique animation technique. Each of his short films is based on a series of some 20 to 40 charcoal drawings, one drawing per scene, mostly in large sizes with some colour enhancements in pastels. In a desire for a chromatic simplicity with symbolic values, only colors, such as blue to represent water, and red, are used, glaring against the subtlety of gray.
Each of these drawings is like a storyboard sketch, often filmed with no camera moves. Kentridge modifies his composition little by little between each frame shot by erasing certain parts and re-drawing them (similar to the oil paint on glass technique used by Alexander Petrov). The charcoal technique, ephemeral and volatile, lends itself to this treatment; particularly in that faint traces remain of the imagery that has been erased. The result on screen gives a rather fragile image, all in nuances, quite in the manner of a man obsessed by the idea of traces, of reminiscences. In this way, Kentridge's videos and films came to keep the traces of the previous drawings. His animations deal with political and social issues from a personal and at times autobiographical point of view, since the author includes his self-portrait in some of his works.
The political content and unique techniques of Kentridge's work have propelled him into the realm of South Africa's top artists. Working with what is in essence a very restrictive media, using only charcoal and a touch of blue or red pastel, he has created animations of astounding depth. A theme running through all of his work is his peculiar way of representing his birthplace. While he does not portray it as the militant or oppressive place that it was for black people, he does not emphasize the picturesque state of living that white people enjoyed during apartheid either; he presents instead a city in which the duality of man is exposed. In a series of nine short films, he introduces two characters, namely Soho Eckstein and Felix Teitlebaum. These characters depict an emotional and political struggle that ultimately reflects the lives of many South Africans in the pre-democracy era.
In an introductory note to Felix In Exile, Kentridge writes, "In the same way that there is a human act of dismembering the past there is a natural process in the terrain through erosion, growth, dilapidation that also seeks to blot out events. In South Africa this process has other dimensions. The very term 'new South Africa' has within it the idea of a painting over the old, the natural process of dismembering, the naturalization of things new."

Madonna - The Sex Book Video (1992)

The photo shoots for Madonna's book "Sex" were also filmed on Super 8 by fashion photographer Fabian Baron. Many of the photos in the book were film frames taken from this footage. Madonna and Baron compiled an hour of the footage for this film. It premiered during the release party for the book. Madonna also had 100 copies of the film made to give to her closest friends. She and Baron also used some of the footage for the video for her song "Erotica". Reportedly, Warner Brothers considered releasing this film along with the book but the idea was scrapped. At some point in the mid-1990s this film leaked out and has been sold as a bootleg.
